Pittsburgh

March 26, 2017. Let’s call this the unofficial first stop of our road trip. A bunch of us (Laura, Mom, Helen, Lynn, Sandy, Lindy, Pam, Karen, Joshua) went to Pittsburgh this weekend to see Jonathan and AJ do the Sounds of Simon and Garfunkel show with the Pittsburgh Symphony at Heinz Hall. It was amazing.

Jonny and AJ never sounded better. After they finished “Dangling Conversation” Max leaned over to me and said, “That’s the best song of the show.” I agreed. (I think we said the same thing to each other at the Philly show.) To be there in that incredible venue, in that beautiful city, with our great family … and to experience that glorious performance … it was just too much. What a night.

Not only that, it was also such a thrill to have people see the Pitt campus—Max’s home for the past four years. It was an unforgettable weekend. The weather was beautiful, great hotel, lots of laughs, and we practically got a parking spot right in front of every place we went. Freaky.

We’ll be going back in exactly ONE MONTH for Max’s graduation. Can’t believe it. Here are some photos.

You’ve nailed it, Lynn. If ever a song was pure poetry, it’s Dangling Conversation. And I’d rather hear Jonathan and AJ perform this music over Simon and Garfunkel!

Dangling Conversation has always been my favorite S&G song… Got to hear my favorite and the way Jonny and AJ do it is perfection…the song is a gem. starts off as two peoples ” still life watercolor “…then loads on tone after nuanced tone …until the music and words have described two people falling in different directions…one Sunday afternoon.. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel put the whole useless relationship out there in two minutes…and for the last 40 seconds….we are transported from the ideal to the hopeless and slowly dropped…dropped…dropped….until the orchestra ends the whole sad affair…with one last unaccompanied note.
It can’t be done without a symphony orchestra and it can’t be done without voices like Jonny and AJ’s
