Day 4 – Denver

What a day. We drove almost 400 miles … and walked 400 more. (Well, not really, but we were all over the place.)

Walked into Denver from Chelsea’s apartment … twice —

Oh yeah … Chelsea! It was fantastic to have all afternoon and into the evening with Chelsea. She took us up to Red Rocks (which was spectacular) and then back into Denver once again where we had dinner together. Denver is spectacular. Chelsea kept saying she wished it was sunny so we could see the mountains in the distance in all their glory. But we could see them just fine. And after two days of the great plains to see the mountains in the distance when we got near to Denver—well, it was outstanding.

Okay. Everyone’s sick of hearing from me, right? Well here’s Laura’s description of the day, and it’s way better:

We arrived at Chelsea’s house at 10:15 AM. Chelsea got out of work early (noon) so we decided to walk downtown from Chelsea’s house. Chelsea’s neighborhood is filled with houses both big and small with great architecture and character. You could see many places that you would want to live in!

We went over a cool bridge that led to downtown. Lots of cranes a new construction lots of bicyclists. Lots of adorable dogs. We walked over to a second bridge into the heart of downtown. Very clean, modern, and inviting. On the way back, we stopped for ice cream at Little Man’s Ice Cream. Oh so good! We sat outside—weather was sunny but not too hot—beautiful surroundings!

When we got back to Chelsea’s she was there waiting for us. So wonderful to see Chelsea. Her place is lovely. Majestic pillars, adorable apartment. We then got into the car to go to Red Rocks. As you get closer, you see the beauty of the rock formations. It was unlike anything we had seen before. Large and impressive. We hiked up to the next level so we could look out over the area. Beautiful. Took many pictures.

The Red Rocks amphitheater is situated so every seat has a breathtaking view. Chelsea said she would like to see the Avett Brothers when they are in concert. We walked to a few other vistas for other beautiful views.

After Red Rocks we went to the town of Morrison. Quaint and charming. We stopped for coffee at Morrison Joe’s. Tasty and lovely! When we returned back to Chelsea’s place we regrouped and walked to the Ale House at Amatos and had dinner outside (yes I ate outside). It was wonderful! Dinner in Denver on an overcast day? Yay! Good hot pretzels, roasted brussels sprouts, burgers, french dip sandwich, chicken salad and Ahi sesame tuna. Lots of conversation. Lots of fun!

Chelsea is a fabulous, fun, funny, energetic host. We love her and love seeing her! We walked back on a beautiful night. Chelsea set us up for the evening with bed, futon, air mattress, and DVDs. All the things we needed.

A fantastic day with the event being even more special because Chelsea was our tour guide.

Song of the day: Tom Petty: Runnin’ Down A Dream.
