Day 12 – San Francisco and Mount Shasta

Another post from Laura!

8:30 AM. We walked down to the wharf and took pictures and then stopped for breakfast at Boudin—known for its sourdough bread. Breakfast sandwiches and coffee and bread made on premises. After a stroll and more pictures, we circle back to Boudin for sourdough loaves to go.

We progressed to the Golden Gate Bridge – iconic – stunning – on a clear, sunny day. We walked across the bridge – more pics – there were ferries, surfers, bikers, dog walkers… Lots of people just enjoying the beauty of the bridge and surrounding parks. It was sweet to be on the bridge again, and we walked across as we had as we had done on our honeymoon. Some things remain the same – the bridge, Barb’s great sense of humor, my love for David and Max. The things that change, a few more lines on my face, being “a bit” older, only add to the story. As we said goodbye I thought, carry this moment of looking back, and it’s joy, as I look forward.

We left San Francisco for Mount Shasta where we’ll spend the night on our way to Portland. We stopped by the Sundial Bridge in Redding. Cool design. Kirk had told us about the bridge.

The drive into Northern California is spectacular … and so different from all the other drives we’ve been on so far on this trip … and all those drives have been so different on their own. What a country!

At 5:15 PM. We arrive at Cedar Lodge. Friendly staff, rooms nestled in the trees, we had dinner at a place called Yak’s. It was a wonderful restaurant here out in the middle of seemingly nowhere. Such a great day.

Song of the day: “The Letter,” by Joe Cocker.

It was great to see you guys and catch up! Glad you made it to the Sundial Bridge. Pretty cool, eh?

Barb, it was good to see you if only in pictures. Max, please now keep a log of all the famous bridges you have visited. Golden Gate, Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Hill to Hill, Minsi Trail – you get the idea. I am surprised we don’t have a dad Beedle book like this.

Did you ask the guy in the safety equipment for the inside tour? Just asking. The Cedar Hotel looks to be a flash back from a way earlier time. I hope enjoyed the color TV and A/C.

So wonderful seeing you in my hood. Discovering new places to go after 20yrs of
living here! Enjoy your journey.
